GIA, HRD, IGI CERTIFICATES
GIA CERTIFICATE
GIA is an independent, not-for-profit organization that researches gemstones, educates professionals in everything related to diamonds, and sets standards for determining the quality of diamonds.
One of the main functions of the GIA is the grading of diamonds.
You may have heard of the 4Cs of diamond quality: color, clarity, cut and carat weight.
The GIA created this standard, along with the scientific procedures for evaluating each “C” and the notation terminology used to describe them.
GIA does not mine, buy, sell or market diamonds. It does not assess diamonds and is not otherwise involved in the pricing or valuation of diamonds.
GIA operates independently of these commercial interests, ensuring that its assessments of the quality of diamonds are completely objective and impartial.
"GIA certified diamond" is an improper term.
GIA does not certify diamonds - it classifies them.
The terms "GIA certified" and "GIA cert" are commonly used in the jewelry industry to refer to diamonds that have undergone GIA's rigorous grading process and the reports that accompany it.
The GIA itself does not use the word "certificate" to describe the document it issues.
GIA examines the diamond, assesses its qualities based on the 4Cs and describes it.
It does not certify the diamond or its value.
On the contrary, like other scientific laboratories, the GIA publishes a report on the results of its evaluation of a particular diamond and thinks that "report" is the appropriate term to describe its classification results.
HRD CERTIFICATE
F ounded in 1973 as the Hoge Raad voor Diamant HRD issues certificates for diamonds and precious stones mainly in Europe.
HRD is headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium and its main shareholder is the Antwerp World Diamond Center (AWDC).
Generally regarded as a legitimate alternative in the United States, HRD still claims to be the grading authority for diamonds around the world.
Over the years, we have experienced an incredible inconsistency with the HRD ranking.
They have on average about two notes of color and / or clarity higher than the note of the GIA.
Diamonds classified as HRD generally have a much higher price than equivalent diamonds classified by the GIA.
This allows diamond companies to make significant profits.
HRD DIAMOND CLASSIFICATION REPORT
HRD provides a comprehensive report, assessing each diamond on different grades and components.
RESULTS CLASSIFICATION
When it comes to grading diamonds, the most important aspects to consider are the 4 C's (size, color, clarity and carats).
Each C is graded on a scale to help determine the quality and beauty of a diamond.
Cut and proportions
HRD Grades Cut on a scale from Excellent to Poor.
They also provide three sub-grades: proportions, polishing and symmetry.
The proportions help to describe the level of brilliance and fire of a diamond.
The polish indicates the finish of the facets of the diamond.
Symmetry describes the proportion of a diamond in certain areas and certain parameters.
IGI CERTIFICATE
